6/29/09 My first attempt at videos
6/28/09 I had the pleasure of visiting Lattimore
Valley Fairgrounds today for the EMMR vintage racecars. I had
a blast! I posted some pictures, check them out.
6/22/09 Duane wanted me to post thanking everyone for the cards, calls, and visits. Just to update everyone, Duane had surgery last Tuesday and is home recuperating. He is still pretty much confined to a bed but is expecting to be put in a cast later this week and hopes the pain will start to diminish when that happens. As for racing, it would appear that our season is over but expect to see us wandering around the pits.
6/6/09 I want to start by thanking everyone, on
Duane's behalf, for the well wishes. Duane is doing well, he's
hanging out at Geisinger Hospital in Danville. From what I understand
he's scheduled for surgery Monday and then they decide on the
next steps.
But as usual I'll break down our night. I've never been a fan of time trial shows, but I think that's mainly because we don't normally time well..lol. We're not sure what happened for time trials, the car looked fast and looked good through the corners. Anyway, we missed the inversion by 1 which means a bad starting spot for the heat and even if you do make the show, a bad starting spot for the feature. Duane started 8th in the heat and finished 6th, looking much better than time trials.
The B main was the end of a bad night for us. Duane was up running
3rd in the B which would have put us in the A main but I think
he jumped the cushion in between 3 and 4 and hit the wall. This
started the car flipping which knocked the driveline loose which
hit him in the leg. This is what caused all the damage to his
leg.
5/30/09 I wasn't there for this weeks race so this is all hearsay but I'll share what I know. Duane started 3rd in
the heat race and finished 7th. It was just a case of missing the setup. Duane then started 20th in the feature and was up to 13th when a chunk of mud came up and broke the wing post on the top wing. Thankfully Duane was able to bring the car in before the second post broke from the pressure of only one wing post. They said the car was good for the feature so if it weren't for the wing post they'd have been in good shape.
5/23/09 Now I know why I try to write these closer to race date, it gets tougher to remember the details as time goes by, but I'll give it my best shot. There was a lot more moisture in the track than is customary at Selinsgrove. We changed back to our heavier track setup and Duane started 5th in the heat race but got a bad start and with everyone being so equal wasn't able to get back into a qualifying spot, much less make the inversion. Getting into the inversion is the key to having a good night. We changed rear torsion bar prior to the consi as the track dried out a little bit. Duane started on the pole for the consi and won the consi. Not the kind of wins we're looking for but we'll take what we can get at this point. The put us lining up 18th for the feature. We weren't preparted for the track getting heavier between the consi and feature so we didn't really change the car the much. Our night got even worse as the feature went on. The car became very tight as the laps wound down so instead of causing an accident Duane pulled in giving us a 20th place finish.
5/16/09 Rain Rain and more Rain.
5/9/09 I hope you made it out to the track this past Saturday night, if you did you saw a heck of a race. I'll get back to that. Our warmup session wasn't that good, but then we didn't expect it to be. But we were ready for the heat race. Duane didn't get a great start for the heat but managed to pass a bunch of cars to get back into an inversion spot, finishing fourth. We had a plan going into the night for the feature and stuck to it and made the changes we planned for a whole week. We were supposed to line up 5th for the start of the feature but Tom Wise had trouble getting the car started which moved the inside row up one, moving us to 3rd and Jessica Anderson to the pole. Jessica was super fast on the starts, she took off to almost a straightaway lead over everyone. Duane and Phil Walter lined up to track her down and finally make the pass which set up a great race between the two. Phil's always fast around the top, but so was Duane. The two races cleanly for about 6 laps when Duane hit the cushion a little too hard and smacked the outside wall. Those things happen when the cushion is a foot off the wall, it leaves very little room for error. We did manage to get a tire back on it and passed a couple of cars in the waning laps to finish 16th. The remaining laps was a good race between Phil and Nate Snyder, one definitely worth watching. Anyway, we're in good shape for the upcoming 358/360 race. Hope you can make it out to see it.
5/2/09 I'm not really sure where to start. We were fast in warmups but Shultz was superfast. Wow! Anyway, we started 5th in the heat race and didn't get a good start but was running 6th passing for 5th when Duane got a little pinched on the straight-away and ended up with a flat LR tire and a bent wheel to go with it. That put us starting 9th in the consi. Duane passed a couple of cars and ended up 5th in the consi, qualifying us for the feature. Since we would be starting in the back of the pack for the feature we figured we'd throw some stuff at the car we'd wanted to try so we thrashed around and got it ready. The car was better for the feature, probably a little tight so we have a good starting point for next week. These weekends have been optimistic but haven't had the results we're looking for.
4/25/09 It was finally great racing weather. Anyway,
we didn't have the night we'd have hoped for but all in all it
was pretty decent. Duane started 5th in his heat race and ended
up 4th, just missing the inversion. We're still having trouble
making our driver comfortable and keeping the car solidly underneath
him, but I think we're making strides. So, as the track was drying
out we took a calculated flying leap for the feature and changed
three torsion bars, four shocks, cranked some weight into the
car, and of course raised the wing. Duane started 13 in the feature
and pretty much stayed about the same, up as high as 10th at the
final restart, but came home 11th. The picture above is what the
pits look like after the racings over, a lot of lingering and
BSing going on.
4/17/09 Hello everyone. Sorry for the delay, much of Sunday was spent at the shop so I'm getting a late start on updating the site. This was not one of our better weekends. We weren't very fast off the trailer, so to speak. After warmups we realized there was some changes we wanted to make to the front end geometry but just didn't have the time before our heat race. Duane started 5th in the heat race and didn't get a very good start and just didn't have the car to move forward. We ended up finishing 6th which means we wouldn't have to run the consi, but would start around 17th for the feature. We made our front end changes for the feature and were running ok. During the red on lap 11th we made a weight change Duane asked for and made the car better. Then a couple of laps later Duane made a small miscalculation trying to pass another car and ended up spinning across the track. The car was too badly damaged to continue so we ended up 19th. I think we've figured out our problem and should be a lot better this coming weekend. And on behalf of Mausteller Motorsport I want to wish Cody Keller a speedy recovery.
4/11/09 Another chilly night at Selinsgrove. Summer can arrive any time now. Racing is much more fun in the summertime. (Chip, tell Megan she can listen from the deck on a warm summer's evening! lol). Anyway, it was a pretty good night, not great but good. We were pretty decent during warmups, made our normal tire changes, wing changes, etc for the heat race. Duane started 3rd in the heat race, raced his way to a convincing heat win, 3 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
For the feature, Duane lined up 5th with Mike Walters starting 6th. The two raced side by side, with Mike on the inside and Duane on the outside, for several laps with Mike finally getting the advantage. It's what makes racing fun. We just missed the setup for later in the race, it was good at the start and went away for a 6th place finish. All in all a pretty good night, after last weeks mechanical malfunction we'll take a 6th, happily. Well, hope everyone has a good Easter. Don't eat too much ham!
4/4/09 To say it was cold on Saturday night would
be an understatement. It was chilly in the pits, and it was flat
cold on top of the trailer. lol. Well, again we were running late
getting to the track. Hopefully we'll get it together and start
making it there on time. We unloaded for warmups with what we
ran in the feature last week with a minor change just to see how
it went. We were 4th fastest overall, I believe. So, we left it
alone for the heat race and we were pretty fast in the heat. Duane
finished 2nd to Dave Calaman in the heat and the car was pretty
fast, but loose.
We were slated to start on the pole for the feature so we made
some pretty dramatic changes to make the car more driveable. We
changed bars, stagger, spacing, wing, etc. The normal stuff but
in bigger increments than normal. Duane jumped out to the lead
on the start and led for 10 laps or so before Calaman got by him
on the inside. A couple of laps later Heimbach got by him as well,
then the caution came out. When the green came out after the caution
Duane said he couldn't turn the car so we slid back to 17th at
the end. The power steering stopped working after the caution,
we still have to diagnose what happened to cause the loss of the
power steering, but we'll be back next Saturday. Hopefully it
warms up a little and you come out to the track to watch the show.
3/29/09 Good rainy afternoon everyone. If you attended Selinsgrove last night you'd have seen a really good race. Congratulation to Scott Flammer on his win.
Saturday was a very busy day finishing up everything to get ready for the season to start. Warmups actually had us a little concerned, we were only mid pack in terms of speed. Our heat race wasn't great either. We weren't real fast and then all you-know-what broke loose. The right front spindle broke sending Duane spinning into the inside wall coming of four and the right front tire down the front stretch. Thankfully the car didn't get upside down and no one got into us. We got an axle back in the car in time for the consi but didn't really get a chance to make any changes. Duane ran pretty good in the consi ending up 5th which put us starting in the back for the feature
We did get to make some changes for the feature and the car got better. Duane was able to pass a bunch of cars and was able to get to 11th without the aid of any cautions, but was passed by Mike Walters in turn 3 on the last lap to end up 12th overall. While we'd have preferred a better finish overall it was a pretty good night. We'll be ready for next weekend, hope to see you there.
1/1/09 Hello Everyone, Thanks for checking out the new site. I've consolidated some material and have plans to keep the site better updated and hope to provide more pit shots throughout the season. We're busy preparing for the upcoming season, it'll be here before any of us know it.
