Shannon Mausteller retired from
driving duties in 1997 to move away for a job/living opportunity
he just couldn't pass up, upon returning to the area for the
2000 racing season he became a crew member, happily
The desire to return to a multicar team didn't appeal to Shannon,
so assisting with the maintenance and the track preparations
and wrenching became a much more viable option.
"I'm very happy with my choice to give up driving, it gives
me more opportunity to concentrate on making the cars work
for my father and brother", says Shannon.
Working out of the area means he doesn't get as involved as
he'd like with the weekly maintenance but they all talk sporatically
throughout the week discussing what changes to make. And upon
arrival Friday night at Clinton County Speedway he assumes
control of the wrenches allowing the drivers to concentrate
more on what they are they are there to do, drive.
With the help of a few other crew members they are able to
allow the drivers to relax a little at the track and not get
concerned over whether everything is being done, and done
right.
Shannon says, "When we used to take three midgets to the track
from the time we unloaded until we were done loading up at
the end of the night we were constantly busy. If something
broke on one of the cars two people would work to fix that
car while the other person would do stagger, fuel, and setup
on the other two cars. It was mayhem most nights!"
